The Bad Seeds vs. Sonic Youth
Special thanks to Jan-Willem Koornwinder for starting a thread on
this subject on the Nick Cave mailing list Goodson
and the Sonic Youth Mailing list,
and thanks to everyone who contributed!
- Kim Gordon (and Thurston Moore?) joined Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
on stage on 01/02/93 in Adelaide for the songs Deanna and
Little Doll.
Also during the Big Day Out that year, Nick joined Sonic Youth
during their cover of I
Wanna Be Your Dog.
- Kim Gordon and quite a few Bad Seeds are involved with
Die Haut's Head On album.
- Thurston Moore and half of The Birthday Party appear on Lydia Lunch's
Honeymoon In Red album. Lydia has worked with both Sonic Youth
and Nick Cave and co. on other occasions as well.
- Jim Sclavunos was an early member of Sonic Youth and is now with Nick Cave
and the Bad Seeds.
- Sonic Youth's video Teenage Riot video contains flashes of The Birthday
Party's Nick The Stripper video, as well as parts of Einstuerzende Neubauten's
Halber Mensch video. Mick Harvey
picked the "Teenage Riot" video, when he presented his favorite
videos in the Rage program in 1992.
Conversely,
Sonic Youth picked the video Nick The Stripper
when they presented 120 Minutes during their Dirty-tour.
- Rowland Howard's These Immortal Souls
have a split single with Sonic Youth on Subpop.
- Sonic Youth opened for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds on
April 24, 25 and 28 in 1985
in the UK. On many other occasions, they shared the bill on festivals.
Also, The Dirty Three have opened for Sonic Youth.
- Sonic Youth have played Nick Cave songs before their live shows.
- Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have an album called
From Her To Eternity, while Lee Ranaldo has an album called
From Here To Infinity.
- Martyn P. Casey and Lee Ranaldo both play on the song
Fallen Down on the album Rise Above by Epic Soundtracks,
who was a member of Ciccone Youth, as well as
Crime and the City Solution. Martyn and Kim Gordon both play on the
song Big Apple Graveyard on that same album to which
Rowland S. Howard also contributes.
- Both Sonic Youth and the Boys Next Door have covered
New York Dolls' Personality Crisis. Also, both bands have covered
songs from the Ramones and The Stooges first albums. And Mick Harvey, Nick Cave and Kim Gordon have all covered Serge Gainsbourg.
- Sonic Youth and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds both have contributed
to the Neil Young tribute The Bridge.
- Nick Cave and Lee Ranaldo's books are published by Henry Rollins' label 2.13.61.

album "Caught In A Trap And I Can't Back Out 'Cause I Love You Too Much, Baby".
