A SHOT IN THE ARM; A SHOT IN THE DARK
20 REASONS NOT TO TAKE THE SMALLPOX VACCINATION
By Amy Worthington Jan. 8, 2002
1. George W. Bush has said of smallpox vaccination: "One of my concerns if we were to have universal vaccination, some might lose their life." ~The Times (in London), November 09, 2001.
2. For each million people vaccinated with the smallpox vaccine, as many as 250 could die, according to the American Medical Association. Multiply 250 times 285 (millions of Americans) and the possible deaths from universal smallpox vaccination could equal 71,250. ~ Journal of the American Medical Association, June 9, 1999, Vol. 281, No. 22, p. 2132.
3. "The American Medical Association said on Tuesday it was not in favor of an immediate mass U.S.smallpox vaccination program, saying the potential threat of a bioterror attack did not warrant inoculating every American against the disease." ~Reuters, December 12, 2001.
4. "Right now the risk of getting the vaccine is higher than the benefit. You could get a secondary infection, a full-blown systemic infection." ~Marie Rau, Panhandle Health District nurse, quoted by The Spokesman-Review, November 20, 2001.
5. CDC director Jeffrey Koplan has admitted that universal smallpox vaccination could unleash a significant number of side-effects. He said that because many parts of ourpopulation do not have a"robust immune system," a fair number of people could have serious reactions. ~Koplan speaking on the PBS special "Bioterror Propaganda" aired by WETA, November 14, 2001.
6. If the entire nation were to receive a smallpox vaccine, several thousand people would likely develop encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain. ~Washington Post, Dec. 26, 2001.
7. Roger J. Pomerantz, chief of the infectious disease department at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, said that doctors have no idea what the smallpox vaccine might do to people at the extremes of life--less than 2 and older than 65. He said that an even greater concern would be its effect on people with weakened immune systems from HIV infection, chemotherapy or transplants. ~Washington Post, Dec. 26, 2001.
8. "Researchers have been reluctant to recommend a new vaccination program which would use the smallpox vaccine for the local population because the vaccine can cause disease and death in persons with inadequate immune systems." ~Science, Vol. 277, July 18, 1997, pp. 312-13.
9. Routine smallpox vaccination in the United States ended in 1972. Officials are hesitant to resume the immunizations because the vaccine is the most reactive of all and has been linked to serious side effects, including death. ~ Reuters, November 29, 2001.
10. Eight printed pages of medical studies documenting the many serious side effects of smallpox vaccination can be obtained at www.whale.to/vaccines/smallpox.html See "smallpox vaccine adverse reactions 66-76." [Note: go to the home page above and put "smallpox vaccine adverse reaction" in the search engine.] Repercussions include serious brain and heart diseases, autism, abnormal chromosomal changes, diabetes, various cancers and leukemias, plus demyelination of nerve tissue years after vaccination.
11. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that vaccination must not be forced on persons whose physical condition would make such vaccination "cruel and inhuman." In other words, the state has no right to command that an individual sacrifice his life in the name of public health. ~Jacobsen V. Massachusettes, 197 U.S. 11 (1905).
12. By the 1920s, several British medical researchers documented that smallpox was not only more common among the VACCINATED, but that the DEATH RATE from smallpox was actually higher among those who had been vaccinated. This indicates that the vaccine was ineffective and predisposed vaccinated persons to more lethal disease. ~Vaccination, Dr. Viera Scheibner, Australia, 1993, pp. 205-220.
13. Getting a vaccination does not guarantee immunity. ~CDC, January 28, 1994.
14. By 1987, scientific evidence indicated that the World Health Organization's 13-year global smallpox vaccination campaign may have awakened dormant HIV infection in many vaccinees. ~Times (in London) May 11, 1987.
15. Vaccines made from animal substrate contain animal viruses that are impossible to filter out. By 1961, scientists discovered that animal viruses in vaccines, including smallpox, could act as a carcinogen when given to mice in combination with cancer-causing chemicals, even in amounts too small to induce tumors alone. They concluded that vaccine viruses function as a catalyst for tumor production. ~Science, December 15, 1961.
16. Some of the new smallpox vaccine doses will be created with animal substrate. Because the vaccine will incorporate vaccinia, the cowpox virus, many wonder about possible mad-cow contamination. Fifty-five million doses of the new vaccine will be created using a cell line dating back to 1966 and cultured from the lung tissues of an aborted human fetus. ~World Net Daily, December 4, 2001.
17. The new smallpox vaccine will be genetically engineered. Many scientists believe that genetically engineered vaccines may be responsible for the global epidemic of auto-immune disease and neurological dysfunction. ~American College of Rheumatology, annual meeting, Nov. 8-12, 1998. Merck's genetically engineered hepatitis B vaccine, Recombivax HB, is a classic example. According to Dr. Bonnie Dunbar of Baylor College of Medicine, many thousands of reported adverse reactions to the hepatitis B vaccine include: chronic fatigue, neurological disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and MS-like disease. ~Testimony of Dr. Dunbar to Texas Dept. of Health, March 12, 1999. Over 15,000 French citizens sued the French government to stop mandatory hepatitis B injections for school children because of resulting auto-immune diseases. ~Science, July 31, 1998. Dr. John Classen has published voluminous data showing that the hepatitis B and other vaccines are closely linked to the development of insulin dependent diabetes. ~Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice, October 22, 1997.
18. The British vaccine manufacturer Medeva has a horrendous record of contamination and blunders. In 2000, the FDA found that Medeva was making vaccines in conditions of filth, resulting in contaminated products. Medeva had been illegally using bovine medium to culture its polio vaccines, then lied about it. Medeva also used the blood of a Creutzfeldt-Jakob victim (mad cow) to manufacture 83,000 doses of polio vaccine used for (against?) Irish children. Nevertheless, the FDA allowed the USA to accept Medeva's flu vaccine (Fluvirin) for the year 2000. ~London Observer series: October 20-26, 2000.
19. In 2001, the British socialized health care system was reported to be in a state of collapse, with many hospitals and labs operating in abysmal filth. Five thousand people die each year from infections contracted in British hospitals; 10,000 become deathly ill from such infections. Sterilization procedures are barely adequate and said to be risking the spread of mad cow disease. Government ministers are reportedly trying to hush up the scandal. ~www.itn.co.uk/ Jan 06, 2001; The Sunday Times of London, November 12, 2001.
20.
The U.S. government apparently intends to conduct NO double blind studies on
the safety and efficacy of the new smallpox vaccine. It has ordered 286 million
doses, one for every man, woman and child in America at a cost of $428 million.
At least half of this vaccine will be delivered by Acambis PLC of great Britain.
Tip of the Week: Keep all vaccine needles away from your body!

Health Sciences Institute e-Alert June 10, 2002
Dear Member, My husband is a police officer, and I have eczema. Until yesterday those two details of my personal life would have seemed to be completely unrelated. But after reading about plans in the works to protect U.S. citizens from an outbreak of smallpox I'm suddenly aware that my husband's occupation and my annoying skin condition present a personal dilemma that could become a serious health concern for me and many thousands of others in the upcoming months.
Everybody gets one
Yesterday I came across a recent notice from the Center of Disease Control (CDC) that far exceeds the recommended daily dosage of government acronyms. The DHHS, the ACIP, and the NVAC (that's the Department of Health and Human Services, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, and the National Vaccine Advisory Committee, respectively) are all hard at work these days trying to figure out how to deal with the possibility of a bioterrorist attack that would unleash a smallpox virus. The DHHS says it currently has a smallpox vaccine prepared for every American.
So now a handful of bureaucrats are trying to figure out if, when, and how to administer 286 million doses. Smallpox is a highly contagious disease. If an outbreak occurs, the vaccine could save thousands, maybe millions of lives. But there have been no reported cases of smallpox since 1979 when the World Health Organization announced that smallpox had been "eradicated from the earth." So the moment a single vaccine is administered, smallpox will be reintroduced to the general population for the first time in more than two decades.
This may seem benign, but the general public appears to be only vaguely aware that if the vaccine is given as a purely preventive measure the potential side effects could be devastating, perhaps even on a global scale. You wouldn't undergo radiation therapy on the chance that you might get cancer. Why risk lives based only on the possibility of a bioterrorist attack? Meanwhile, the alphabet soup of government bureaucracy has been boiling with activity.
So get out your acronym handbook and your calendar to try and follow along. The CDC has been hosting forums to provide the public with information about smallpox and smallpox vaccine, and to solicit comments on the use of the vaccine in the event of a smallpox outbreak or bioterrorist attack. On June 15, the National Academy of Science will hold a smallpox forum for scientists and experts in the field. The CDC and DHHS have also asked ACIP and NVAC to review the current smallpox vaccine recommendations, and the ACIP-NVAC Smallpox Working Group will provide updated smallpox vaccine recommendations by June 20. Also, on June 19 and 20 ACIP will meet in Atlanta and hear four hours of comments from the public, after which ACIP will vote on recommendations to present to DHHS.
Sometime after that, CDC will make its final recommendations to the White House Administration where the final decision will rest with Tom Ridge, the Director of the Office of Homeland Security, and Tommy Thompson, Secretary of DHHS. One of the plans, which Tom Ridge is reported to favor, calls for the immediate vaccination of first responders. And this is where a Maryland police officer and his eczematic wife come in.
A first what?
A first responder is anyone who will be called on to assist victims and provide public safety if a smallpox outbreak occurs. Emergency room doctors and nurses, for instance, would be first responders. A broader definition of first responders would include EMS personnel and police officers. So if Governor Ridge mandates that a wide range of first responders should receive the smallpox vaccination, and if that mandate includes police officers, then my household - and many others - will be faced with some hard choices. Contraindications to the smallpox vaccine include pregnancy, cancer, central nervous system disorders, the use of immunosuppressive drugs, and eczema, to name a few.
Anyone in these groups who comes into contact with someone who has received a smallpox vaccination risks serious and even fatal side effects. So what's a pregnant ER doctor to do? Stay home? Should an EMS paramedic avoid his mother who's in remission from cancer? Should a woman with eczema sleep in her office for a few weeks because her husband is a police officer? These are real concerns.
At the very least, lives will be disrupted. At worst, side effects will take their toll and people will suffer. I want to make it perfectly clear that I'm not saying that the health of millions should be jeopardized to prevent personal inconvenience for people like my husband and me. There are much larger issues in the balance here. For instance, doctors can't predict with certainty which individuals will have adverse reactions to the vaccine or what those specific reactions might be. So if you work in an emergency room and you're pregnant but don't know it, or if you have cancer but don't know it, a smallpox vaccination - administered only as a precaution - could have dire consequences, including paralysis, brain damage, and death. And what if you don't want your dose? I was astonished to learn that refusing it may not be an option.
Looking toward a worst-case scenario, the CDC has drawn up a model state legislation that would allow public health officials to utilize the National Guard to force vaccination on citizens in states where the governor has declared a state of emergency. This would include forcing vaccinations on people with known contraindications based on the idea that whatever side effects they might suffer would be preferable to certain death.
Easy does it
This is all starting to sound quite alarming, and believe me I don't want to help spread any panic here. The fact is, there's no need for panic. What we need right now is clear thinking from Governor Ridge and Secretary Thompson. We need for them to make choices based on well-informed advice from experienced health officials and concerned citizens. I hope you'll forward this email to friends and relatives, and I urge you to learn more about smallpox vaccine and then share that information as well. With this e-Alert I've just scratched the surface of everything that's going on.
For instance, there are already plans to create federal funds to compensate victims of bioterrorism vaccines because Congress, at the request of drug companies, may agree to accept liability for vaccine injuries and deaths. Much as I enjoy going after the drug companies, that's an e-Alert topic I hope I'll never have to address. For more information I recommend these two sources: the CDC (cdc.gov), and the National Vaccine Information Center (909shot.com), a parent-led organization responsible for the vaccine safety movement. But don't stop there - please write your federal and state legislators, Attorney General John Ashcroft, DHHS Secretary Tommy Thompson, and Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge and let them know that the public does not want them to dangerously and prematurely rush the prevention of something that may never happen.
This is a volatile situation in uneasy times. The questions are difficult and the answers aren't easy. But the ultimate decisions should come from a consensus of knowledgeable scientists and citizens, not from bureaucrats and politicians. There is an outbreak of Smallpox on the Pakistan border and in Afghanistan. Perhaps this was the fast-tracing of dangerous Smallpox vaccination program by Ridge, in effective against Ebolapox, Veepox, Monkeypox which the enemy is more likely to use. Dr. Cass Ingram is on Joyce and Dave's Show this morning promoting Aregason, and Aregasol. He also said, "An epidemic could be prevent with a Vitamin A shot in the butt twice a year."
We know there is an agenda here in the US to have Ridge's program foist upon us. Moreover, Dr. Cass said, Smallpox only occurs in those with debilitating disease, immune suppressed, and those who do not practice good hygeine, particuarly those in 3 world countries where it is not widely available. People do not die from Smallpox, but the complications i.e. pnuemonia, abscess, other secondary infections, etc.
Unlike the 30's, we now have a variety of antibiotics and anti-viral drugs to reduce the mortality and morbidity for those choosing conventional acceptable medical treatment. The AMA is not recommending large scale vaccination. All current vaccines are dangerous and contain mercury 125% amount of mercury recommended. Additionally, many children are dying or severely brain damanged from childhood vaccinations. Unfortunately, I lost the toll free number for parents needing financial help to families whose children have been harmed from these vaccines.
The smallpox vaccine is only investigational, and have not been tested -- who knows what else has been added i.e. HIV, HIB, etc. It is being manufactured by companies with scurrilous reputations, with propriatory and incestual relationships with the military. The DOD wants to take over the smallpox vaccination program
Only a fool would believe that government-sponsored conspiracies do not exist. History has proven that the media cannot protect us or inform us of vast government programs that hurt innocent people. Charges of secret and unethical experiments against helpless citizens are not the ravings of paranoid people.
On the contrary, they are serious accusations of an informed and enlightened citizenry. -- Dr. Caldwell. I used to get a yearly flu shot until I started to listening to these experts. Many contain mycoplasm which can be fatal or cause chronic debilitating illness -- no wonder I am sick! I am a nurse, and will never give a vaccine to another human being, nor will I ever take any. Get the smallpox vaccine and sign your own death warrant.
